Alton manager Kevin Adair was full of praise for his side after they won 2-1 at Horley Town in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday.
The Brewers led 1-0 at half-time thanks to Scott Sanderson’s 26th-minute goal. Warren Colman equalised for Horley on the hour mark, but substitute Luke Perkins’ 85th-minute winner gave Alton the three points.
“It was a really professional performance from my group on a difficult, bobbly pitch,” said Adair. “We deserved to be ahead at half-time, but Horley got themselves back in the game in the second half. We turned to our substitutes and they had an excellent impact on the game, and Luke got the winner.
“I’ve got an excellent group here. We’ve built a really strong platform this season and have been right in the mix for a play-off spot. At the start of the season no one outside of our group thought that would be the case. Given the position we were in we might be slightly disappointed, but hopefully we can push on again next season.”
Saturday’s win followed a 4-2 defeat at Colliers Wood United in the Combined Counties Premier Division South last Wednesday evening (April 17).
Goals from Coby Acquaye, Stefan Aiwone, Aaron Moody and Carlos Infante gave the hosts the three points. Luke Perkins and Darnell McDonald were on the scoresheet for Alton.
Alton finish their Combined Counties Premier Division South campaign with a home match against Camberley Town on Saturday (3pm), and Adair is hoping his side can end their league campaign on a high.
“We will be looking to win the game and get the three points,” said Adair. “Camberley can give any team in this league a tough game. They always give us a tough game and I’m sure Saturday will be no different.”
