Alton bowler Jude Wright (two for 20) took two early wickets to leave South Wilts on 21 for two. Three quick wickets for Dan Sumner (three for 43) saw South Wilts slip to 128 for six, but the hosts rallied to score 214 for nine off their 50 overs.
Alton’s chase started positively. Dan Harris was straight out of the blocks and struck 21 off 17 balls but he was trapped in front by Ryan Freeman. Scott Myers (49) and Aarav Rajnikanth (36) added 59, but Alton lost wickets at regular intervals and were bundled out for 171.
Alton’s second team beat Basingstoke & North Hants’ second team by 58 runs on Saturday.
Ryan Hale (66), Ethan van der Linde (50) and Joe Paul (50) hit half-centuries as Alton scored 252 for five off their allotted 45 overs. Ian Carpenter (three for 46) and Matt Crane (three for 32) impressed with the ball as Alton bowled the visitors out for 194.
Alton’s third team beat Froxfield by eight wickets on Saturday.
Luke Crook took four for 11 as the Brewers skittled out the hosts for 93. Michael Salmon (two for 29), Toby Taylor (two for 28) and Lee Partner (two for 20) were also in the wickets. Ian Mason (26) and Howard Gadsby (21) got Alton’s run chase off to a good start, before Andy Pearce (28 not out) and Nathan Vincent (12 not out) saw the visitors home.
Alton’s fourth team fell to a ten-wicket defeat at Wrecclesham on Saturday.
Alton’s women slipped to an 82-run defeat against Cove on Sunday. The visitors batted first and scored an above-par 195 for eight. Jorja Wright and Nic Gadsby put on 40 for the first wicket for Alton, but the hosts fell well short.
