Villagers of all ages have no excuse for boredom this summer as a “youth club for adults” has opened in Rake.
Rake Activity Club has been “a tremendous success” since opening in the village hall early this month.
The club is open from 10am to 4pm every Wednesday and Thursday and is the brainchild of Debbie Jelley.
The club aims to “encourage independence, physical and cognitive stimulation” as the former daycare worker is a strong believer in the power of staying active.
She said: “I think it’s really good for people to get out and both, both physically and cognitively.
“People can sit at home and do nothing or come here, kick balls, play skittles and enjoy a range of activities. We’ve got a pool table and Wii, there’s also an air hockey table.
“We’ve got a huge field and orchard and it’s a bit like a youth club, really, except for adults.
She added: “I’ve set something up that the community should enjoy and gives them the chance to meet people.”
Visitors at the wheelchair-friendly club can also expect a two-course and homecooked buffet meal along with tea, coffee and treats, while plenty of seating is available.
There’s outdoor bowls and ball games while a host of activities are planned from chair football and cooking to flower arranging and nail painting.
It’s early days but the club is looking for new members and budding actors of all ages as pantomime is planned.
Debbie and her colleagues would like to recruit more cast members as the curtain will rise on their performance of Snow White around the festive period.
Transport to the hall is available for less abled villagers around Rake, for more details about the activity club and membership contact Debbie on 07900 983393 or email her at [email protected]
