One Grayshott resident's epic solo journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats could soon make it to the big screen – but he needs your help.

Mark Harris embarked on an extraordinary 1,135mile walk from Cornwall to Scotland in memory of his late mother-in-law, Lou Dale, who passed away suddenly from a brain tumour. With no prior hiking experience, Mark, who has Type 2 diabetes, walked for more than 80 days, raising around £24,000 for Macmillan and Cancer Research UK.

Mark documented the entire journey, capturing both hilarious moments and incredible physical and emotional challenges along the way.

Not only did the trek transform his body – halving his blood sugar levels – but it also helped him cope with the loss of his mother-in-law.

Now, Mark has brought his tale to Hollywood, who plan to turn his adventure into a documentary or TV series. The project, featuring 200 video clips taken along the way, hopes to show the power of nature and exercise in helping mental health and diabetes.

But, there's a hitch. After undergoing a quadruple heart bypass and now facing two torn rotator cuffs, Mark has been out of work and lacks the funds to advance the film project. He’s crowdfunding to hire a producer and develop a podcast to pitch directly to industry directors.

Mark hopes this documentary will emphasise the importance of nature, exercise, and open conversation in tackling both diabetes and mental health struggles.

He said: “Losing Lou was so sudden. I spoke to so many people on the walk about cancer. Everywhere I went, someone had been impacted. Sharing these stories helped me, and I believe this documentary could do the same for others.

“If it could just help one person, it will be worth doing.”
