Eight staff members from Bohunt School are preparing to tackle the AJ Bell Great South Run on Sunday, October 20, to help raise funds for Sophie’s Legacy, the chosen charity of Attenborough House.

Sophie’s Legacy was established in memory of Sophie Fairall, a young girl who was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma, in September 2020. Sophie passed away in September 2021, just one year after her diagnosis, at only ten years old. During her time in hospital, Sophie decided that she wanted to trailblaze national change and set out to improve the hospital experience for children and their families.

Her mum, Charlotte, hasn’t let grief stand in the way of her daughter’s plans and set up Sophie’s Legacy. This charity is fighting hard for Sophie’s wishes: to have play specialists available in hospitals seven days a week, better hospital food for children, meals provided for parents, improved training for medical professionals in childhood cancer, and increased funding for childhood cancer research.

The Bohunt team said they are honoured to be able to support this cause. Their training began in September, fittingly during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Running 10 miles in Portsmouth’s Great South Run, they’ll be cheered on by supporters and music, all to raise funds and continue the fight for change that started with one little girl.
