A Haslemere-based business has played a pivotal role in the €86 million restoration of one of Malta's most iconic buildings.
Clement Windows Group manufactured more than 100 steel-framed windows for The Brewhouse, a landmark of reinforced concrete Art Deco architecture on the island.
The multi-million transformation of The Brewhouse and the surrounding Trident Park area has been spearheaded by the London-based ritchie*studio. Covering over 7,000 square meters, the site now features a unique blend of office, retail, dining, visitor experiences, and event spaces, spread across seven floors.
This is one of the most important regeneration projects in Maltese history and its inauguration ceremony was attended by more than 400 people including the Prime Minister of Malta, Robert Abela.
Originally designed by Lewis V. Farrugia and William Binnie, The Brewhouse opened in June 1950 and quickly became a symbol of Malta’s post-war industrialisation, receiving a Grade II listing.
Given the building's heritage, it was crucial that the new windows matched the aesthetic of the originals while meeting the building’s requirement for thermal efficiency – as The Brewhouse was designed to strict environmental codes. Clement Windows Group's EB24 range was chosen for the important task.
Ian Ritchie, Director of ritchie*studio, said: “Clement Windows provided the perfect steel window profile and craftsmanship solution to help restore this beautiful and iconic Maltese industrial Art Deco building.”
