Camelsdale Primary School marked the D-Day anniversary with a poignant whole school assembly, welcoming Nick Hinchcliffe, Chair of The Royal Society of St George Haslemere Branch, and James Stewart-Smith of Classic Battlefield Tours. Eight pupils from St Ives School also joined the event.
The D-Day flag flew proudly as Mr Stewart-Smith taught the students about the critical role of logistics in the D-Day invasion. Mr Hinchcliffe delighted the pupils with his impressive collection of D-Day medals from his family.
Headteacher Sarah Palmer said: “We enjoyed creating some of the artwork for the D-Day commemoration in Haslemere and joining with St Ives School to remember this historic occasion. Teaching the children about what has gone before is very important. It was good to reflect on what led to the freedom we see in our country today. Thank you to Mr Hinchcliffe and Mr Stewart-Smith for leading the learning.”
