A popular family-run village pub near Farnham has been named the UK’s 90th best gastropub.
Top 50 Gastropubs is an annual rankings run by events specialists William Reed, sponsored by Estrella Damm.
The list is created by collecting votes from more than 100 key hospitality industry professionals.
The Bluebell in Dockenfield, which has been owned by Robin and Lucy Catchpole since 2013, was ranked in 90th place.
It is the first time the picturesque village pub has featured in the list.
“Proud doesn’t come close,” said the couple afterwards.
The Bluebell thrives on creating fresh food sourced locally, with quick deliveries from nearby producers such as Mill Farm Organic in Bentley meaning the need for frozen food is obsolete.
After dabbling with more adventurous cuisine when they first took over, head chef Robin took over cooking duties a number of years ago and prioritises traditional pub food.
Current choices include a venison haunch with dauphinoise potatoes, squash puree, braised red cabbage, tenderstem broccoli, red wine and cranberry jus; a sweet potato and mushroom shepheard's pie; and many of the usual pub favourites you would expect.
