A Comrade has won a presidential campaign as another Farnham & District Billiards & Snooker League (FDBSL) calendar comes to a close.
Russell Wishart is the king of Sovereign Snooker Club as he defeated a spirited George Ratcliffe to win this year’s Presidents Trophy.
The Comrades A hotshot saw off Chris Gladney, Simon Laney – whose 66 break was the highest of the tournament – and Wing Cheng to reach the final of the handicap knockout tournament.
Some 17 players entered the showpiece with Wishart’s victory against his Alton Cons A opponent earning him a frame against a professional at the FDBSL Presentation Night in November. The plate competition, made up of defeated first-round players, was won by Neil Callingham of Liss RBL A, who defeated Fleet Broadway’s Darren Ridgers in the final.
The tournament’s host club have completed a double of sorts as Sovereign A defeated Liss RBL A 4-0 to win the team knockout cup. The match was closer than the scoreline suggested, but two black-ball deciders and a 49 break by Shakeel Ahmad proved decisive.
The final was hosted by Hindhead RBL while Mark Franklin and Matt Hunt officiated and arranged food, respectively, for the final.
The victory means both the league and team knockout trophies are heading to North Camp as Sovereign B won the league title. The singles and doubles knockout tournaments are nearing their conclusion, with the quarter-final draws for both competitions nearing completion.
