Community sports clubs in the Farnham area can apply for small grants thanks to a new partnership between Farnham Sports Council and Farnham Lions.
Clubs that wish to apply for a grant should visit farnhamsportscouncil.co.uk for full details.
Farnham Lions representative Geoff Jeal said: “We hope it’s user-friendly because we genuinely want to hear from local clubs based on their needs for sports equipment and other criteria which we set out on the sports council’s website. Access to funds has been influenced by the process Farnham Lions have used for years to support general requests from the Farnham community.”
Sue Keogh, the secretary of the sports council, encouraged all clubs in the area to check out the website and consider making an application for a small grant.
She said: “Particularly in times of austerity, external funding support isn’t so easy to access so this is a fantastic opportunity to get help for initiatives such as club sponsorship, sports equipment and coaching support.
“There’s potentially something here for every club.”
Farnham Sports Council chairman David Gill said: “This is an important year for the town’s local sports council – which is an independent, voluntary organisation. Firstly, it’s the sports council’s 50th anniversary and we plan some events later in the year.
“Secondly, we have entered into a mutually-supportive arrangement with the Farnham Lions – we both believe we can make a difference in our community. We also thank them for their confidence in us. There is no doubt in my mind that for many community and voluntary organisations, effective partnership working is the way forward.”
