Haslemere Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team scored a late equaliser to earn an impressive 3-3 draw at home to a high-flying Reading Ladies third team.
Reading barely touched the ball for the first 15 minutes of the match.
Haslemere connected a series of slick passes and began attacking, while playing some excellent hockey.
Against the run of play, Reading slotted a goal towards the end of the first half.
Despite being 1-0 down at half-time, Haslemere felt confident as they had dominated the game. Not long into the second half there were a series of shots on goal and Mel Redman put away a loose ball to level the scores.
Haslemere continued to pile on the attacks and Beanie Bradley netted a rebound to put Haslemere 2-1 up.
Reading responded with a series of attacks. Haslemere keeper Jo Burder made save after save, and also relied on the defence to cover her.
There were three superb saves off the line – one from Katie Mansell on a short corner, one from Olive Amin and one from Iona Richardson.
It was a matter of time before Reading’s skilful players were rewarded and they scored two goals in fairly quick succession to lead 3-2.
Haslemere continued to work hard. They played attacking hockey and won a penalty corner not long before the final whistle.
Haslemere decided to take the corner from the opposite side, which seemed to throw the young Reading defence.
Celia Hall and Hannah Enticknap executed a slick one-two and Enticknap slotted home to make it 3-3.
Haslemere are now ninth in the league table, with only four points separating the teams between sixth and 11th.
