Farnham blind golfer Jason Bastable has enjoyed a hugely-successful 2024 season.

The 52-year-old got his season off to a winning start with victory in the England & Wales Blind Golf Chairman’s Cup.

The Farnham golfer was then crowned the B3 men’s low gross champion at the Canadian Blind Golf Open at Bootleg Gap Golf Course.

Bastable was then part of the rest of the world team which beat North America at Suessenbrunn Golf Club in Austria to regain the Handa Vision Cup.

The rest of the world trailed 10.5-5.5 going into the final day’s single matches but produced a dramatic turnaround to win 17-15 – with Bastable winning his singles match 3&2 against American Kevin McBride.

The Farnham golfer was also part of the England team which beat Scotland at Hill Valley Golf Club in Shropshire to win the Auld Enemies Cup.

Bastable completed his season with an impressive second-placed finish at the South African Open at Goldfields West Golf Club near Johannesburg.

“Winning the Canadian Open was awesome,” said Bastable.

“Conditions in Canada were quite similar to England, so it suited me quite nicely.

“The Handa Vision Cup was probably the highlight of the year for me.

“It was great to be on the same team as players I usually play against.

“I really enjoyed the team element and can appreciate why all the professionals enjoy the Ryder Cup so much.”

Bastable is a member at Blackmoor Golf Club, and he says the club play a big role in helping him compete on the world stage.

“I’ve had plenty of support from people from Blackmoor,” said Bastable.

“I tend to play at Blackmoor twice a week.

“I’ve been playing with the seniors’ quite a bit and they have taught me the importance of keeping the ball in the fairway.

“I’ve sacrificed a bit of distance in my game for accuracy and it has really helped.”

Bastable is now enjoying some time off before gearing himself up for a busy 2025 season.

“As it’s now the end of the season I’m enjoying a bit of a break as I need to take that time off to let my body recover from a gruelling season,” said Bastable.

“I’ll probably build up my preparations for next season in January or February.

“Next year will include the next World Blind Golf Championships, and I will be aiming for a top-five finish.

“I finished fourth in the previous world championships in Cape Town in 2023 and I won the world championships in Italy in 2018, so I definitely want a top-five finish.”
