Petersfield Town extended their unbeaten start to their Southern Combination Premier Division campaign to five games with a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Loxwood.

Callum Kimber grabbed the only Rams goal of the night.

The visitors probed early on and took the lead on 14 minutes through Kimber’s strike. The ball broke kindly for Asad Ssemwogerere, who fed Kimber, who shimmied his way into a shooting position and fired a cracking effort over the Loxwood goalkeeper which dipped under the crossbar.

The hosts equalised a minute later. After poor play out by the Rams and good pressing from the hosts, Loxwood won the ball in a dangerous area. Ryan Hall picked it up in the box, twisted to make space and fired low into the far corner.

The equaliser spurred the hosts on as they began a spell of dominance. Charlie Martin beat onrushing Rams keeper Ellis Grant to the ball, but a weak shot let him down and allowed Dan Wood to recover and clear.

Loxwood’s best chance fell to Hall, who was unmarked in the box. He took on the shot first time, but he missed the target with the goal gaping.

Petersfield changed their shape in the second half, and substitute Kian Towse made a big impact for the Rams. Towse turned his man and drove into the Loxwood area, but Dec Seiden couldn’t turn his cross in, with Kiarn Asafu doing well to clear his lines.

The Rams finished the match with ten men after Kieran Alcock was sent to the sin bin late on.

The match ebbed and flowed for both sides with no major chances, although Seiden was denied a late penalty. He felt he was tripped, but the referee blew his whistle for full time rather than a penalty.
