Petersfield Town co-managers Connor Hoare and Callum Glen hailed their side’s character after the Rams’ dramatic 2-1 win against Pagham in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division.

The Rams played the entire second half with ten men after Will Webb was sent off just before the break, but they picked up the three points thanks to Harrison Cable’s late winner.

“To a man, everyone stepped up,” said Hoare.

“When you look at a team you want them to resemble what you stand for and what you are as a person – and that was exactly that.

“Not a single one of them can be faulted for anything they did in the second half.

“The two boys up top ran so hard and the midfield three were absolute monsters – the three of them covered so much ground and when they got the ball they used it well.

“For the back four to defend Pagham’s direct play as well as they did for the entire second half was absolutely superb.

“I thought we were the better team with ten men and that's not the first time we've done that this season.

“The boys have got the belief that no matter what we can be in adverse situations but still come out on top.

“We felt we were going to win the game even with one less player.

“We were so confident that if we executed the plan it would work.”

Glen admitted the Rams felt a sense of injustice regarding Webb’s red card, but was delighted with how his side rose to the challenge in the second half.

“We were maybe a little bit unlucky with the red card but we felt it was a case of turning on to that challenge to step up and be counted,” said Glen.

“To a man the lads were excellent – we can't ask for anything more and we're delighted with their endeavour and hard work.

“It wasn't the prettiest game of football but we knew it wasn't going to be like that with having a numerical disadvantage.

“Football is about hard work, digging in and counting on each other.

“It's a team game and you don't win games like that if you're not a team.

“We're delighted with the victory.

“It gives the lads that extra bit of belief that when we do have poor moments they can step up.

“Football is about moments.

“It was a good moment for the lads but we're not going to get ahead of ourselves.

“We're going to enjoy it but not get too carried away.”
