Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was happy with his side’s efforts after they drew 1-1 at home to Cobham in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Tuesday evening.
Shamal Edwards gave the champions a second-half lead from the penalty spot, but Derick Hayford’s header meant honours were even in front of a crowd of 197 at The Memorial Ground. The result extended Farnham’s unbeaten run in the league to 44 matches.
Town are currently in the middle of a relentless run of Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday fixtures, and Johnson admitted the gruelling schedule is starting to catch up with his squad.
“The games are starting to tell and you can see it a little bit,” said Johnson. “But credit to our boys. They stuck at it with a side that were relentless. We had enough chances to win the game but it wasn't to be and we move on to the next one. It's easy for us to criticise on the side but they're rolling out game after game.”
Johnson made a triple change at half-time with Edwards, Brandon Kalu and Lamar Koroma coming on for Dean Rule, Max Meaton and Harry Cooksley. Edwards made an immediate impact when he won and scored a penalty, and Johnson was pleased with his contribution.
“He's been good lately and he looked sharp again,” said Johnson. “He came off the bench and he was in the thick of it straight away. Maybe he should have notched another one, but he took his penalty well.”
Next up for Farnham is a trip to League Two Sutton United in the Surrey Senior Cup semi-finals on Thursday evening (7.45pm), and Johnson is looking forward to the occasion.
“We’ve got to be full of confidence and see what we can do there,” he said. “I think all the boys will be looking forward to it.”
