Aldershot Town manager Tommy Widdrington was satisfied with his side’s efforts after they drew 1-1 at home to second-placed Bromley in the National League last Tuesday night (January 23).
Nothing seperated the two sides after 90 minutes at the EBB Stadium, as Lorent Tolaj’s first-half effort was cancelled out in the second by former Shot Callum Reynolds to give both sides a point.
“I thought we probably created more chances over the 90-odd minutes,” said Widdrington. “We were certainly the more attack-minded team. I thought in the first half we were well on top and we deserved to go in 1-0 up.
“The disappointment is that we’ve conceded from a set play, and everyone has a job so somebody hasn’t done theirs. We had enough chances to win the game I felt. I wanted a performance and I thought the lads gave me that.”
It was Tolaj and the Shots who landed the first blow with a little over ten minutes to go to half-time. The Swiss striker was found by Josh Stokes in a dangerous position inside the Bromley box.
His first effort was blocked low by Grant Smith, but the rebound fell kindly for Tolaj.
With Smith out of his net Tolaj had a simple task of putting the ball into the empty net to give the Shots the lead.
The Shots nearly doubled their lead with just over three minutes gone in the second half. Ryan Glover fizzed his effort straight at Smith, who parried the ball to Tolaj, but Tolaj was unable to get any power behind his header.
A former Shot came back to haunt the hosts just before the hour mark. Louis Dennis’ effort was saved by Jordi van Stappershoef, but the ball fell straight to the feet of Reynolds who sent the ball high into the net from close range.
