Aldershot Town were held to a goalless draw by York City at the EBB Stadium on Saturday in the National League.

The first chance of the game came from York just 11 minutes in. A through ball was met by Tyrese Sinclair on the right-hand side, however his shot went wide of the far post.

A minute later, another opportunity for the Minstermen arose. Ollie Pearce played a low pass to Ricky Aguilar just outside the box, but he fired his shot over the crossbar.

After a stoppage caused by an Ollie Harfield injury, the Shots had their first chance on goal in the 21st minute. York keeper Rory Watson was mixed up with his own defender way out of his area and the ball fell directly to Josh Barrett, who clipped the bar from 35 yards out.

In the 28th minute, the Shots had another close chance. A through ball from Ashley Akpan was found by Hady Ghandour down the right but his cross was too heavy to be met by Barrett in a dangerous area.

Four minutes later, the Shots were inches away from a goal. Theo Widdrington sent a low pass to Barrett who rounded the keeper but tapped the ball wide of the post.

The visitors had another chance in the 38th minute. A bundle of bodies in the box led to a deflected shot but Shots keeper Marcus Dewhurst managed to get a touch to it.

Almost immediately afterwards, a Minstermen corner led to a chance in the Shots box but the header was blocked by another brilliant reaction save from Dewhurst.

In the 46th minute, Akpan played a superb through ball to Lachlan Byrd who squared it to Ghandour – but the ball was claimed by Watson before he could reach it.

The final chance of the first half came from the visitors. Ashley Nathaniel-George was found at the edge of the box, but his curled shot went wide.

The Shots created their first opportunity of the second half in the 48th minute, when Widdrington controlled the ball on the edge of the box, but his effort went wide.

Another chance for the Shots arose just six minutes later. The ball fell into the path of James Henry, whose left-footed strike curled left of the woodwork.

A few moments later, the visitors nearly scored after a dangerous attack. A through ball found Nathaniel-George just outside the box, but his shot was kicked away by one of the York players.

Just before the hour mark, the hosts were close to going ahead. A deep cross from Akpan was headed down by Henry and was met by Barrett down the left-hand side, but his effort was denied.

In the 64th minute, another chance came from Olly Scott. A well-struck shot from Ryan Jones was blocked and fell into the path of Scott, who was off balance and saw his effort go wide.

Seven minutes later, Mo Fadera attempted a chance for the Minstermen but his effort went flying over the crossbar.

The Shots continued to push for a goal, and nearly scored in the 86th minute. A ball from Kai Corbett was met by Jack Barham, but his tapped shot was blocked.

Just before stoppage time, the Shots had another shot on goal. A low cross from Ghandour was just short of Barham and the ball was collected by Jones, but his effort was straight at Watson.

Despite both sides creating further chances in stoppage time neither side was able to make a breakthrough before the final whistle and the points were shared.
