THE Rita Plant Trophy was well supported by Frensham RBL Bowls Club members who remembered and celebrated the late Rita Plant’s life and contribution to the the club over 20 years.
Club captain Chris Bonner paid tribute to Rita before the event. “She was a competitive and committed bowler, a dedicated member and committee member, an avid fund-raiser but most of all a caring and loving person who always had the club and members uppermost in her thoughts and deeds. She will always be a treasured memory in the club’s history.”
Eight teams of four took part in the first three games and the highest scorers progressed to the semi-finals stages.
One of these teams comprised Rita’s daughter, Sarah Nash, husband Kevin and sons Elliott and Samuel (both under 10 years).
They went on to reach the final where they were defeated by eventual winners Tony Wareham, Pat Smith, Chris Bonner and Les Trusler.
The glass trophy was presented to the winners by Gordon Plant who thanked everyone for taking part in what will now become an annual event.
A raffle raised almost £300 for Macmillan Nurses, Midhurst. Other members who contributed to the success of the day were Sheila Haytree, Pat Pharo, Heather Warner, Marge Sparkes, Bert Pharo, Dennis Ling, Jean and George Wiltshire.
