ALTON Bowling Club have had mixed results in national and county competitions.
Paul Schofield continued his good run in the National Champion of Champions, defeating Harrison Ash (Farnborough), but Alton men went down 3-2 to Fleet United in the Top Club.
David Sims won his third match in the Hampshire singles, only to lose to Ric Newson of Oakley in the next round. However, Sims beat Alton Social’s Brian Scowcroft in the pairs.
Alton ladies met Margaret Holden’s Alton Social at Hook in the County Area fours final. After being ahead for most of the match and taking a six-shot lead into the last end, Alton dropped six and it was Alton Social who snatched victory on the extra end.
Terri Beech continued her County Champion of Champions campaign and played excellent bowls to defeat Sheila Forrester. However, she then lost to Rachel Powell of Yateley.
Linda Habberfield and Norma Craighill played a very tight match against Oakley in the North Hants WBA pairs. It was 19-19 going into the final end, but the Alton duo stayed calm and won by one shot.
The teams led by John Blair and Paul Schofield both made it through to the next round of the Basingstoke & District triples.
In the Whitchurch League, Alton A beat Old Basing C and Andover B both by 3-2. Alton B lost 3-2 to Friary, but defeated Littleton Lions, also 3-2.
Three Counties League
