Aldershot & Farnham Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team slipped to a close 2-1 defeat at Woking.

On the back of three wins, the Shots were looking for more points. However, Woking got off to the stronger start – linking together passes through the midfield and putting the Shots under sustained pressure.

The Shots managed to absorb the pressure thanks to strong tackles and some fine saves from Lucy Cochrane.

The visitors then began to create their own opportunities, including one short corner that was millimetres away from opening the scoring.

The game opened up, with chances for both teams, but it was Woking who took the lead from a penalty corner.

This gave the home team confidence, and their high press made life difficult for the Shots. Woking then doubled their advantage just before half-time.

The Shots started the second half on the front foot and created numerous opportunities in the Woking D, but were unable to convert them.

A superb bit of skill by Fiona Stewart broke through the lines, and Charlotte Clive won a short corner.

Woking’s defence made a mistake and a flick was awarded. Phoebe Bryant converted to make the score 2-1 with plenty of time left.

Cochrane then kept the Shots in the game with some superb saves. The final ten minutes were played at a high pace and were end-to-end.

The Shots created opportunities but were unable to find an equaliser as they slipped to a narrow defeat.

While disappointed with the result, the Shots will focus on the positives from the game.
