OVER the course of Black History Month some Weydon School students were invited to complete a research challenge, finding out about inspirational people associated with each of the subjects taught at the school.

Their research involved them researching a person associated with each subject. Some individuals who were researched were Marcus Rashford (PE), Malorie Blackman (English), Nelson Mandela (history), Rosa Parks (PSHE), Katherine Johnson (science), Jacob Lawrence (art), Louis Armstrong (music), Euphemia Lofton Haynes (maths) and Oprah Winfrey (business).

With more than 70 entries across Years 7 to 11, a prize draw was held for each year group.

The winners were Francesca Butler, Immie Gardner, Kashfa Sohail, Scott Barnett and Will Burrage, and each received a couple of books and some chocolate.

Curriculum area leader for history Laura Butler said: "Well done to our winners and to everyone who took part. We were so impressed with all the entries, not only the quality of the work but also with how many took the time to participate and learn about all these inspirational people."
