Police investigating a summer spate of burglaries and jewellery thefts around Petersfield and the A3 corridor have charged two men from the Waverley area.

Terence O’Reilly appeared before Guildford Remand Court last week following an investigation by Hampshire and Surrey Police into 77 offences around the south east.

The 22-year-old of Stovolds Hill, Cranfield, has been charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and two counts of stealing a motor vehicle along with 32-year-old James Carthy of Plaistow Road, Dunsfold.

The pair were remanded in custody to appear before Guildford Crown Court on Thursday, November 7.

The offences included the August 18 theft of jewellery from a house in Love Lane, Petersfield, and similar incidents around Havant, Waterlooville and Fareham around the same time.

The arrests follow an early September appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage with sightings of a silver Audi being linked to the incidents.
