A walking football team is one step ahead after putting out an appeal for new members.

Dynamo Haslemere Walkers FC, backed by Waverley Borough Council, meets at The Edge on Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Walking football is a slower version of the beautiful game, and as the name suggests, no running is allowed. The game is non-contact, and the ball must be kept below head height.

Albert Hall from Dynamo Haslemere Walkers said: "It is a great way for us to stay active and keep playing the game we love as we get older. We may walk the pitch, but we run the game.

“A lot of our players used to miss the banter that comes with being part of a team, but we have that again now through walking football. We’ve got a WhatsApp group where we share jokes and stay in touch away from the game, and we often go out for meals together."

Cllr Kika Mirylees from Waverley Borough Council said: "Walking football is a fantastic way to improve your fitness and stay healthy. Don’t be fooled by the slower pace of play; walking football will still make you sweat. If you love the beautiful game, walking football is a safe way to start playing once again. Even if you’ve never considered playing football before, it’s an accessible way to give the sport a try."
