Surrey County Council have a plan to plant 1.2 million trees (one for every resident) across the county by 2030.
As a contribution towards this target there was a free “treegiveaway” on Saturday morning at six Surrey libraries.
At Farnham Library, 125 trees were given away free of charge, with four species available to choose from, field maple, rowan, crab apple and guelder rose.
Each tree was given away with a stake, a spiral guard and a leaflet given guidance on planting and after care.
Two local volunteer tree wardens were on hand to give advice on tree selection and planting.
There was a steady stream of people collecting the trees and it was especially encouraging to see so many young families with their children coming to collect and being excited in planting the trees in their gardens.
