As part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, and to mark the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the vicar of St Margaret’s Church, Rev Nicolas Haigh, planted a scarlet hawthorn (may) tree.
The planting took place in the churchyard in Church Road, Fernhurst, near the war memorial, after the annual harvest festival service. Fernhurst Parish Council chairman Heather Bicknell, and Millie Owles, the 2022 May Queen, took part alongside the vicar.
In bright sunshine about 30 people gathered to watch the blessing of the tree, which was bought from Griffin Nurseries and is nearly three metres high.
