A TRAGIC accident at Milford Station today (May 9) claimed the life of a 42 year-old man who lived in the village.
British Transport Police said: “A person has sadly died after they were struck by a train close to Milford in Surrey. Officers from BTP and Surrey Police were called to the line at approximately 9.30am and attended alongside paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.
“Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.10am. Train services were suspended while emergency services dealt with the incident. The lines were reopened at 11.20am but South Western Railway (SWR) warned passengers to expect “residual delays” until around 2pm.
A spokesman for SWR said: “We are very sorry for the disruption that this may cause to your journey.
“If you or someone close to you has been affected by this incident or another, there is always someone to talk to. You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 at any time, on any phone.”
Tragically, close to the scene of this week’s fatality, a man died after being struck by a train between Milford and Witley stations on July 17 last year in an incident also not treated as suspicious by BTP.
