A team of tiny pilgrims made the long journey from school to church—an arduous ten-minute walk—to learn all about baptism.

Twenty-two pupils from Fernhurst Primary School headed to St Margaret’s Church to find out about this key ceremony in the Christian faith as part of their religious education.

Reverend Nick Haigh led an interactive session to teach the children, reading from a book and finishing with a demonstration around the church’s ancient wooden font, using a doll, of course.

Headteacher of Fernhurst Primary School, Jennifer Thornton, said: “This was a wonderful trip for our early years children, who were a credit to the school throughout.

“It was a great opportunity for them to learn about baptism in the Christian faith and fits in with the religious element of our curriculum.

“We would like to thank Rev Haigh for his patience and time in explaining baptism to the children.”
