St Ives School in Haslemere has been awarded the prestigious British Council International School Award, recognising its commitment to global education. The accolade, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, honours schools that excel in bringing an international dimension into their curriculum.

The award ceremony took place at Westminster on January 20, attended by MPs and educators from across the UK. Kate Ewart-Biggs, Deputy Chief Executive of the British Council, presented the award to St Ives, with local MP Gregory Stafford also in attendance.

St Ives integrates international learning across subjects, from French and Spanish partnerships in Languages to global studies in Geography, History, Music, and Art. The school’s environmental curriculum aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and students have participated in projects like ‘Brushstrokes of Change,’ collaborating with schools worldwide.

Headteacher Kay Goldsworthy said: “We are delighted to hear that we’ve won the British Council’s International School Award. We are firm believers that a well-rounded education is only complete if pupils understand their place in the world and learn to be decent, global citizens.

“We bring international learning opportunities into every subject throughout our exciting curriculum. To have this recognised by the British Council is something to celebrate indeed and I am extremely proud of us for achieving it.”

Scott McDonald, Chief Executive of the British Council, added: “St Ives has earned this award through its inspirational international work. By embedding a global perspective, schools prepare students for life in an interconnected world.”

Since its launch in 1999, more than 6,000 UK schools have received the International School Award, which encourages institutions to establish international partnerships, embed a global ethos, and engage with the wider community.

St Ives School, an award-winning prep school for children aged 2-11, has previously been named Small Independent School of the Year twice in five years.
