SHERLOCK Holmes was called upon to track down a missing turkey in Camelsdale Primary School’s Christmas play, in which food was a central theme to coincide with the school’s new café opening in early 2018.
The production by pupils from years one to six, followed the great detective’s hunt, aided by Dr Watson and Mrs Hudson, with a cameo performance by Paddington Bear.
Sub-plots woven into the mystery of the missing turkey, included The Innkeeper’s Breakfast, Robin Hood – A Feast of Merry Makers, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, The Jungle Book, Charles Dickens’ classic Oliver and the year six performance of School of Rock.
The school also celebrated Christmas with its Christingle service, when pupils made the candles up with a team of parent helpers and took them to the service at St Paul’s Church in Camelsdale.
Headteacher Sarah Palmer said: “Our pupils put on an amazing festive performance which included every member of the school.
“The food theme was in celebration of our soon-to-be completed school cafe, which will allow us to serve our 219 pupils a hot meal – something we are really looking forward to.
“We are incredibly proud of our pupils and all their hard work towards the play and the wonderful performances they gave.
“They clearly got so much pleasure out of performing too. Camelsdale School’s Christingle service is always a very special time and the culmination of our Christmas term.
“We always look forward to coming together with our children and families to mark the end of a busy term and enjoy the children’s wonderful voices.”
