Petersfield’s ninth Clean-up for Remembrance kicked off last weekend ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

The Petersfield Society were joined by people from across the community, ready to volunteer their services for the annual litter pick.

Right up until the morning on Remembrance Sunday, volunteers will be out in their high-vis jackets with their rubbish bags and litter-pickers, clearing the town of rubbish so it looks spick and span for the memorial services.

Beth Svarovska, event organiser and Petersfield Society member, said: “It has really grown in popularity and support. I have a big detailed map of the town and villages and people will tell me which bit they want to clear of litter.

“We will make sure they have equipment, do a safety briefing and then they will be able to clear the litter any time in the week.”

The launch event at the United Reformed Church was well attended, with local MP Damian Hinds, deputy mayor cllr Chris Paige and councillors from the county and district councils.

As people gathered for the briefing, they were treated to a delicious afternoon tea by Val Hart BEM and music from Alfie Shipley. It also marked the first time the Petersfield branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) attended.

Petersfield RBL president, David Lodrick, said: “I cannot find the words enough to thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
