A novel borrowing initiative in Haslemere has just celebrated reaching its first chapter. The Library of Things recently marked its first anniversary, celebrating a year of sharing, borrowing, and sustainable living. Launched on October 6, 2023, during Libraries Green Week, the initiative provides residents with access to seldom-used items, saving both money and resources.

Through the Library of Things, locals can borrow items such as power tools, gardening equipment, or cake tins for a nominal fee of £3 to £5 plus a refundable deposit. This eco-friendly alternative allows people to use items they need without the cost or environmental impact of buying new, while also helping to reduce waste.

Over the past year, the cordless combi-drill, pressure washer, and paper shredder have topped the list of popular items borrowed. All fees go toward expanding and maintaining the collection, which continues to grow based on community needs.
