Liphook councillor Angela Glass organised a litter-pick in Bramshott last week to get the village spick and span for the street party taking place this Monday to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

Volunteers accumulated bags of rubbish from around the village, including the obligatory dumped mattress, household waste bags, an iron, number plate, cans of energy drinks and a roller screen from someone’s car boot.

A further dump of a double bed and drawers was also identified. And within hours of completing the clean-up, one of the volunteers witnessed a man dumping an Aldi bag full of household waste and food at the same spot as the mattress had been dumped before. 

The waste included receipts for two phone top-ups that had taken place that morning in Lindford. This offence has been reported to East Hampshire District Council.

Fly-tipping is an offence that incurs fines and a criminal record for the person caught carrying out this anti-social behaviour.

Volunteers included Cllr Jeanette Kirby, chairman of Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council, which provided the pickers, hi-vis jackets and bags for the rubbish.  

The parish council has a supply of these and will lend them to any group which would like to clean its own areas around the villages.
