ECO-WARRIORS of Liphook Junior School came out in full force on Saturday, taking part in a litter-picking session at Radford Park.
The pupils collected a large variety of rubbish items – including crisp packets, plastic bottles and cans.
But their work did not stop after disposing of the rubbish – they then wrote to the manufacturers of the items, calling on them to reduce their use of single-use plastic, and also to local authorities asking them to put more bins in the park.
Sarah Lewis, a learning support assistant at the school, said: “We are so proud of our wonderful eco warriors who care so much for our planet.”
A spokesperson for Liphook Parish Council confirmed they had invested £6,175 on 21 new litter and recycling bins through the area, and praised the “good work” of the pupils.
A spokesperson for East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) thanked pupils for their litter-pick, congratulating them on writing to manufacturers.
The council recognised that while there were no plans to install more bins, they “applaud the efforts of these young people in calling for change”.
EHDC’s climate champion Cllr Elaine Woodard praised the “amazing” children for giving up their free time and writing to the manufacturers.
