Lion Green has featured heavily in the news thanks to a controversial toilet block which has prompted the town council to post weekly updates on its progress.

This week: contractors were back on site on Tuesday (October 10) to connect and test the internal water supply and the foul drainage should take two days. 

Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks will be making the electrical connections a matter of priority. Healthmatic Ltd will be starting on the path and surrounding area as early as next week.

But in other Lion Green news: damage deposits have been upped, grounds maintenance budget is increased and a new mulch runway might be on the cards for the zipline. 

The damage deposit required from commercial organisations using Lion Green has increased to £1,500 and for non-commercial one day hirers it has increased to £250. This is to take place with immediate effect.

The council has recommended that grounds maintenance budget for 2024/2025 should be increased by £800 so ‘verti’ draining can be done annually to help improve surface drainage and soil structure.

Resurfacing the zip wire runway has been discussed at length by the council. The current surface was previously considered low risk but is now a moderate risk because of the shrinkage between the tiles and increasing signs of wear and damage.

There is another two years worth of wear and tear of the surface before it becomes a medium risk.

The council’s recommendation is that the zip wire surface is completely replaced with a bonded rubber mulch, with the cost of £8,705 to £9,422 being added to the budget for 2024/2025.
