A Horndean children’s cancer charity has received a £1,000 funding boost to support its vital work.
Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal provides free memory-making family breaks in luxurious lodges, for children with cancer and their families.
The donation made as part of the Movement for Good Awards will go towards funding outdoor equipment for families to use and play with in the holiday homes, including games and toys. The charity has around 150 families per year visiting the homes, meaning equipment needs to be regularly updated.
Pam Marshall from Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal, said: “Thank you for supporting us through your nominations. We are overjoyed to have receive the £1,000 donation. This will help bring big smiles to lots of little faces of children and their families."
Ms Marshall set up the charity in memory of 10-year-old Hannah Westbrook, who passed away in 2004 from Hodgkin’s disease after she was diagnosed two years prior. This year, September 19 will mark 20 years since her passing and the charity hopes to raise more funds as it is also Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The charity added: “We currently support over 150 families per year and this year we reached 2,000 families.”
Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards is giving away over £1 million to charities across the year and invites members of the public to nominate causes close to their hearts. A one-hundred and fifty awards of £1,000 have been donated to charities across the UK and Ireland.
