The rain stayed away enough for people to come out for the 14th Haslemere Classic Car Show.
The free show is supported by local businesses and individuals and run by James Ewing and Jane Puttock. On Sunday morning around a hundred cars from six decades gathered for a 60 mile morning drive west of town.
A traditional village fete was held around Lion Green and was filled with more than 200 pre-1980 classics. Attendees were able to indulge in their passion for classics, have some refreshments from Haslewey’s teas while listening to jazz, supporting local organisations and shopping at quality stalls.
One of the highlights was the ‘Best Dressed Car and Crew’ - a fun competition with owners encouraged to dress to match their cars. Judging was led by Mark Hoole of Southdowns MOT in Fernhurst.
In first place was Rob Bancroft in his 1960 Mark 1 Austin Mini. Rob had travelled all the way from Cannock in Staffordshire for the show. After discovering that his car had been originally restored and rallied 30 years ago by show organiser James!
Visitors could also vote for ‘the car they would like to take home’ in the 'People’s Choice’ competition and the winner was Simon Freemantle in his 1971 Fiat 500.
The prizes were presented by mayor Oli Leach who said: "With such a wonderful variety of classic cars and stalls, it really is a very special day in the local calendar and helps make Haslemere such a great place to live.”
James said: “It’s a lot of hard work to put on an event like this but it’s worth it when we see all the amazing vehicles.
“We have an amazing community here in Haslemere and it’s good to give something back. Everyone enjoys a great day out, even those who don’t have much interest in cars!"
