IT’S MY AIM with this column to help encourage the support all types of live music around the area and maybe even try a music genre you may have not considered before.
To be able to do this it really helps if Herald and Post readers can send me information on gigs, events or new releases that I may not be aware of (email to [email protected]).
With this in mind I bumped into Allan Manning at Farnham Leisure Centre who asked if I could feature more of the great classical concerts around in my column. He sent me some details so here goes…
The Farnham Sinfonia Orchestra, a professional chamber orchestra led by Elizabeth Cooney and conducted by Matthew Taylor, will be playing at Bury Court, Bentley, on Sunday, June 5, at 2.30pm.
Elizabeth Cooney is a violinist who has performed at the BBC Proms and the Royal Albert Hall and as a soloist for BBC Radio 3.
Matthew Taylor studied under Leonard Bernstein and is a lecturer at Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey. Tickets are available by emailing [email protected]
The Alton Concert Orchestra will be playing outside at The Shed, Bordon, for a concert entitled A Night at the Proms on July 9. The programme will include The Star Wars suite, Let it Go (Frozen) and many well-known classical pieces.
A maximum of 1,000 tickets will be sold. Some tickets are still available from www.theshedwb.com – tickets cost £10 (children free entry with adults).
The Farnham Chamber Music Club have their monthly meeting and performances on Sunday, May 22, at 7pm at Quinettes Barn in Churt. Free for members and guests pay a nominal entrance fee
Meanwhile today (Thursday) it’s The Spikedrivers playing at the weekly Boogaloo Blues and Boogie night at Farnham Maltings (www.boogaloopromotions.com). They are highly rated by Blues In Britain magazine.
A reminder that this Saturday (May 14) Grayshott Folk Club have Honey and The Bear at Grayshott Village Hall. Tickets from Des O’Byrne on 01428 607096.
On May 19, Geoff Hiscott will be back with open mic at The Jolly Farmer, Blacknest. He then has his Not Just Jazz Show returning to the Victoria Hall, Ash on Saturday, May 28. Tickets on 07811 812347.
Petersfield’s Shine Radio features local acts each Thursday from 9pm on Mandy P’s show (www.shineradio.uk).
