Right at Home GF is inviting people living with dementia to join them for an afternoon of musical memories this Saturday.
The annual concert will feature a performance by acapella ladies’ group In Accord whose repertoire includes popular chart hits, hymns and songs from musicals.
Alastair Shanks, managing director at Right at Home GF, said: “We know from research that music can have a positive effect on those with dementia.
“Music has been shown to help reduce the heart rate and blood pressure and can trigger endorphins, which is the feel-good hormone.
“Our event is called Musical Memories because we also know music can act as a prompt for recalling memories and reminiscing about the past. We hope the concert triggers some happy memories for people and that they share them with others at the concert.”
Tickets cost £15 and thanks to sponsorship from the Society of Later Life Advisors and Bourne Wood Manor, there is no charge for carers. The ticket includes refreshments and cake.
The concert is supported by Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care. All proceeds will go towards the costs of facilitating community events such as Singing for the Mind, Inclusive Cricket, Love2Move and the Sunflower dementia cafes in Farnham, Alton, Guildford and Bordon.
The concert is from 2pm to 4pm at the Farnham Maltings. To book, call the Maltings’ box office on 01252 745444 or email [email protected]
