The South Downs National Park Authority is considering an application to change the use of a building in Froxfield for young people.
Elysian, a company that provides animal assisted therapy and learning for children, wants to create a new therapy and education centre at Staple Ash Farm.
To do so, it needs permission to change the use of one of the buildings, which is currently classed as commercial use (Class E), to a learning and non-residential institution (Class F) land use.
The supporting statement says: “The proposed change of use for the building from light industrial use to that of therapy/education is essential to enhance our ability to serve our children and young people effectively.
“The site is ideal for those young people who need support and time away from the farm environment yet still be in a quiet and safe place for therapy and learning.
“By using this space, we aim to create a more inclusive and dynamic learning environment where children and young people can work together in groups, support one another, and develop valuable skills and abilities, in preparation for their life outside of our provision.”
According to the transport statement, the proposals will result in a circa 53 per cent reduction in traffic attraction associated with the site. Car and cycle parking will be provided in accordance with relevant authorities and standards.
Highways made no objection on the condition that provision for parking is complete before development begins to ensure adequate on-site car parking for the new space.
Froxfield Parish Council supports the proposal.
