CAMELSDALE Primary School has struck silver for the quality of its geography teaching.
The school has been awarded The Geographical Association (GA) primary geography quality mark silver level, which was launched to raise the quality of geography classes in primary schools.
The award is seen as a key strategy and has been driving school improvement in geography.
GA primary curriculum leader Jon Cannell, said: “Each year the GA’s national moderation team is highly impressed by the quality of the submissions they receive.
They are packed with evidence and examples of the learning, assessment and improvement systems that underpin high quality geography.
“It is heartening to see the extensive range of schools across the UK, which believe that a broad and balanced curriculum matters.
“Schools that use geography to drive their curriculum, engage pupils, raise standards and improve the outlook for each pupil.
Through the rigorous quality mark framework the GA supports and develops a school’s understanding of the subject.”
Camelsdale headteacher Sarah Palmer, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this geography quality mark.
“Camelsdale prides itself on a broad and creative curriculum and this award is testimony to that.
“Thank-you to Mrs Thickpenny, our geography subject leader, for leading this work.”
