Two women who know a thing or two about walking have been presented with awards at a showpiece event in Petersfield.
Malinka Van Der Gaauw and Cadet Sergeant Emily Taylor were presented with mayor’s awards at the annual town meeting.
Richard Welch was also among the winners at the Festival Hall event with the trio all receiving a certificate and medal from Councillor Peter Clist.
Malinka, who was sadly unable to attend the ceremony, was recognised for her work in establishing the Petersfield Walking Festival while TPS student Emily was lauded for promoting the Air Cadets at major events.
The “remarkable young lady” who rose rapidly to Cadet Sgt after joining in 2019 asked school leaders if she and fellow cadets could wear the uniform at TPS Remembrance events and similar occasions.
Her requests were granted with both Bohunt and Ditcham Park schools following suit.
Mr Welch has overseen a major clampdown in poaching and illegal fishing since becoming the Heath Pond bailiff after the pandemic.
“It just shows there are a lot of people who are devoting their knowledge and spare time to Petersfield – so many people are showing remarkable initiative,” said Cllr Clist in congratulating the winners.
