A Chinese language school in Farnham rang in the Lunar New Year last Saturday with a spectacular celebration at Lucky Star Chinese restaurant in Weydon Lane.
OCLS Farnham Chinese School celebrated the Chinese New Year in grand style, showcasing a rich tapestry of cultural activities and traditions, including Chinese calligraphy, Beijing Opera mask crafting, traditional games, and a hands-on dumpling-making session.
The festivities kicked off with opening remarks from Linna Hardwick, headteacher of the Farnham Chinese school.
Mrs Hardwick emphasised the importance of culture as a vibrant tapestry that weaves together traditions, values, and shared experiences. She expressed a hope that the Lunar New Year serves as a reminder of the beauty of cultural diversity, fostering a sense of belonging and inspiring a community that celebrates differences.
Distinguished guests, including the mayor and deputy mayor of Waverley and the mayor of Farnham, added to the event's prestige. Each offered their perspectives on the significance of cultural celebrations and the importance of fostering community connections.
The highlight of the event included a mesmerising Chinese music performance that captivated the audience, followed by a delectable banquet featuring traditional Chinese cuisine.
The event concluded on a high note with a soul-stirring performance by the Jasmine choir ensemble, leaving attendees in high spirits and creating lasting memories of a truly remarkable Chinese New Year celebration.
