Villagers will get a glimpse of the past this Saturday as an historic exhibition is returning to Buriton.
The Bygone Buriton exhibition in the village hall will feature a wealth of displays, photographs and information about years gone by in the parish.
But there’s always room for more with villagers encouraged to take along their old photos, newspaper cuttings or memorabilia with a Buriton link to the annual event.
This year’s show will have a special focus on Buriton’s sports teams so organisers would love to hear from anyone with old photos of the village’s cricketers, footballers or tennis players.
There will also be a focus on Buriton and former Petersfield Post photographer Don Eades with dozens of fascinating pieces from his 25-year tenure making up a photo wall.
The event from 1pm to 4pm will also include displays about hop growing and picking in the parish, the Buriton and Butser chalk quarries and 150 years of the village school.
People can also learn more about former pastimes in the village like pheasant and rabbit shoots, social events, sheep rearing on the Downs and how farming in the area has changed.
Anyone with a connection to the village has been encouraged to visit while copies of all the Buriton Heritage Bank books will be available to buy at the free event.
Anyone who may be able to help the Buriton Heritage Bank team with their ongoing research should contact Doug Jones on 01730 231326 or visit www.buriton.org.uk
