ANYONE who has recently watched Celebrity Masterchef will know the early rounds have a street food challenge.

Contestants cook something they would sell in their food truck, and often give a little back story to John Torode and Greg Wallace.

The challenge is something Dinesh and Sammy can identify with. For their Kothu Truck is all about authentic Sri Lankan street food which shares their identity and family with the community.

The menu item sure to excite everyone’s senses is their culinary dish, the Kothu Rotti. A shredded flat rotti is beaten together with the fragrance of onions, meat and curry before being topped with either scrambled egg or tofu. 

Being both tantalising and aromatic, this centrepiece means much more to the pair than just the flavour-serving showstopper that it is.

The Sri Lankan streets were full of this cuisine sensation when Dinesh and Sammy were growing up. Order a Kothu Rotti from their truck and you will witness the preparation, smells and sounds of this fascinating dish coming together, creating a culinary sensory overload.

The Kothu truck is more than just a food outlet for Sammy and Dinesh, as it’s a portal to Sri Lankan culture. The culture was something the couple were proud to convey to their young family, with the truck offering a glimpse of the culinary and aromatic treasures they experienced while growing up on the island.

The truck opened for business a few weeks ago opposite The Shed in Bordon and will mostly pitch up beside the cinema. But they’ve also made appearances in Alton, Liphook, Haslemere and Bentley in recent weeks, generating rave reviews for their Kothu Rottis and loaded fries with a Sri Lankan twist.
