THE CHASE Community Hospital won’t be closed until a much-vaunted new health hub in Bordon is built.
That’s the message an NHS officer has made to concerned Whitehill & Bordon residents who fear losing all the services the hospital currently offers.
The new facility will provide primary care and community health services currently delivered by the Chase and is expected to open in Easter 2026.
The lower two floors of the five-storey building next to The Shed will house primary care services, a pharmacy and community services with housing on the floors above.
Councillor Andy Tree, local representative for Whitehill, Bordon and Lindford, exposed concerns during a meeting last week saying many residents do not want the Chase to close.
He asked if remaining services would be transferred to the likes of Alton Community Hospital if the health hub isn’t built, as promises have been made in the past.
Cllr Tree said: “If the health hub doesn’t happen, will Chase Hospital be left open, or is there any chance that services will stay?’.
“As long as the residents think it’s health hub versus Chase Hospital, not health hub versus nothing, it’s very difficult to promote the health hub as securing health provision for the town.”
Lisa Medway, of the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board, said there is no “plan B” other than relocating the community hospital services to the new health hub.
She said only a quarter of the hospital is currently being utilised for health services, resulting in a “disparate” range of services instead of a “vibrant” health centre.
She said: “The idea of the hub is to bring those services together and we have made it clear that we will retain the Chase Community Hospital until an alternative is available.
“We are clear that the community services currently operating in that facility don’t have anywhere else to go.
“So unless the health hub is built, there are no other alternative plans, so we would not say that the community hospital is closing because absolutely there is no plan to do that until we can transplant those services.”
