Organisations in and around Alton have received grants from East Hampshire District Council’s Community Climate Action Fund.
The council was looking for projects that engaged the community on climate issues, supported carbon reduction in the district, and supported adaptation to climate change and encouraged behaviour change.
The Kingsley Organisation received £8,000 to put solar panels on the Kingsley Centre, St Mary’s Bentworth CE Primary School was given £1,778 towards a bike shelter, there was £10,000 for The Kings Arms Youth Project towards heat pumps and an air conditioning unit, and Medstead Lawn Tennis Club received £2,099.33 to change its clubhouse lighting to LED.
Climate change portfolio holder Cllr Robert Mocatta said: “We’ve allocated £250,000 to the Community Climate Action Fund. These grants are helping our communities to take steps to reduce the impact they have on the environment and respond to climate change, and I’m really pleased with this round of awards.”
